Assistance to countries for creating and managing SPAs: outline of the Project's objectives, achievements and prospects.
To promote the choice, creation and management of MPAs and lead them to be included on the SPAMI List, RAC/SPA has developed and implemented this Project, with the financial backing of the Commission Européenne, pour sept pays des rives méridionale et orientale : l’Algérie, Chypre, Israël, Malte, le Maroc, la Syrie et la Tunisie.
In partnership with staff at universities(Université d’Alicante), research institutions (ICRAM) and training institutions (GIP ATEN), technical guides and training have been provided, and six management plans have been prepared to enrich their MPAs.
Following this project, several states have requested help to have their areas reclassified as SPAMIs.
